Philly Cheesesteak Recipe Crock Pot

Living in the Philly area my whole life, I’m very acquainted with Cheesesteaks! It’s one of my favorite sandwiches EVER!

I honestly don’t know how long I could live in another state not having the ability to eat a delicious suburban cheesesteak!

See my stovetop version of the Philly Cheesesteak too!

See, the suburban cheesesteaks where I’m from are different than the ones you find in Philly. They’re not made with a low quality orange cheese sauce, like some of the famous cheesesteak shops.

Suburban cheesesteaks are make with real American cheese or provolone cheese. Plus, suburban cheesesteaks are not completely dripping in grease.

I’d go on debating this topic but, trust me when I say some Philly suburban cheesesteaks are in a class of their own… an elite class if you ask me! They are unparalleled greatness. A dance party for your taste buds, if you will.

When I was young and unknowing, I went to another state for a beach vacation and was horrified when I was served a Steakum in a roll with what tasted like tomato paste.

One of my friends stopped me before I complained. He said “We’re not near Philly anymore.”

Yep! Reality set in and I never ordered a cheesesteak more than a 40 mile radius from Philly ever again!

But, you don’t have to live near Philadelphia to eat a steak sandwich. Steak sandwiches are commonly made on a restaurant griddle/grill not in a slow cooker.

But, with the popularity of slow cooker dinners, one can see why the possibility of making the beef in your slow cooker would have its advantages.

After all, at the end of the day, you’re just a mom trying to get a yummy, EASY dinner on the table. That’s where this Slow Cooker Philly Cheesesteak Recipe Crock Pot comes in to save the day!

You can prep the veggies the night before and just dump everything in the slow cooker when you’re ready to cook it. Because the steak is thinly sliced, as it should be to make a steak sandwich, it’s ready in only two hours on slow cooker high setting.

Amoroso Rolls

One of the most important things about making a GOOD cheesesteak is the bread rolls. They should be fresh, soft and good quality. One of the most popular bread rolls used for a cheesesteak is Amoroso Rolls.

Thankfully, you can purchase them on Amazon because they’re not easily found in other parts of the US. This is only one of the reasons I feel lucky to live in the Philly area.

How do you make a Philly Cheeseteak in the Crock Pot?

Then, you cut up onions and peppers thinly. Next, add them to the Crock Pot with beef broth, EVOO, garlic powder, salt and pepper and cook on high for two hours.Slow Cooker Philly Cheesesteak Recipe (4)

No oil-splattered stove to clean…YES! I love that. I make this recipe with basic ingredients. It’s ready in only two hours if cooked on high setting.

PRO TIP: Don’t cook this recipe on low setting for 8 hours or the peppers will liquefy!I’m not one to rush to read directions when I buy something new but, this is an instruction you don’t want to skip! I wouldn’t use frozen onions and peppers for this recipe either

Low-carb/ Keto Option

Plus, you can make this yummy dinner low-carb/Keto by simply omitting the bread rolls. Just put the cheese slices on top of the beef and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds or until the cheese melts.

Buy shaved ribeye steak to make this delicious slow cooker cheesesteak recipe for lunch or dinner. It’s a great way to feed a crowd for game day too especially when you don’t have access to a grill or stove. Dinner is served!

Another sandwich favorite of mine is the Reuben. I make it with corned beef or pastrami, sauerkraut and Thousand Island (or Russian) dressing.

It’s fabulous! You don’t have to go to a deli to get a great Reuben.
